Although The Outer Hebrides may seem very remote and a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of city life, they are surprisingly easy to get to. Direct flights operate from Glasgow and there are various ferry routes from the Mainland. Beacon Light is in a stunning location enhanced by the spectacular granite and glass house and when you arrive you will be very happy to have made the journey

by Ferry

There is a ferry from Uig Isle of Skye (1 hour 45 minutes) to Lochmaddy which is a 15 minute journey from the house. The ferry from Oban to Lochboisdale is longer (5 hours) and the journey from Lochboisdale is 45 minutes. There is now a ferry from Mallaig to Lochboisdale(3 hours 45 minutes)On both journeys you will have the opportunity to see Whales,Porpoises and Dolphins.

Uig,Isle of Skye to Lochmaddy,Isle of North Uist
Oban to Lochboisdale ,Isle of South Uist
Mallaig to Lochboisdale
Uig to Harris to Berneray (Beacon Light only 30 mins by car)

Our favourite way is to go from Glasgow via Loch Lomond and then drive across Glencoe and take the short ferry at Corran and stay on the Ardnamurchan peninsular for a stop over. In the morning drive to Mallaig and take the ferry to Skye and then across the Island to Uig. Fantastic scenic journey and a very relaxing start to your holiday.
Otherwise you can get up to North Uist in one day from most UK places via the road link to Skye and the ferry from Uig.

Location

Beacon Light sits within 7 metres of Loch Euphort in a quiet location in Locheport. It sits above the loch and overlooks 10 miles of wilderness where a huge variety of wildlife can be seen in the loch and beyond.

Daily sightings include Deer, Otters, Seals,Golden Eagles, Sea Eagles, Hen Harriers and many other species from the house which has a telescope to get a closer view. The picture of the Otter and Stags swimming across the loch in front of the house were taken by guests.

Eaval and North and South Lee seem to overlook the house and are great walks with views of the whole Island from the top.
The nearest beach is Baleshare 10 minutes away and the numerous other spectacular beaches on the West Side where you will share with half a dozen people if you are lucky are a comfortable 25 minute drive.
